What are the protected classes in Pennsylvania regarding employment?

I know there are federal protected classes, and I think that each state can add to that federal list. I have seen a lot about different areas of PA having different protected classes, so I'm confused.

Can someone help me out?

Specifically I want to know if family status (at work) is a protected class in the city of Philadelphia. And where I can find the actual statute/law about it.
And I want to know if it is a protected class, does this work the other way? Meaning, if someone with children is given special hours due to having a child, and someone who doesn't have a child asked for the same hours, could it be reverse discrimination? It may be something entirely different....

Thanks!

Family status is not a protected category under PA state law. Whether the city of Philadelphia has enacted such a protection is something I do not know. However, I have had employees in the greater Philadelphia area as well as having close family members who have worked in Philadelphia proper, so I suspect I would have heard about it if it did. You are free to contact the city manager's office and ask them.
