Recently, my wife had harrasment charges brought up against her by a subordinate empolyee. The employee was good for several years but recently her work slipped and she was on the verge of getting fired. She claimed she was being targeted because of her race. My wife's employer, a local government, initiated an investigation. The complaint was filed in February. My wife was finally interviewed in the begining of April. There has still been no response from her employer. So, my wife does not know if she will be facing disciplinary action or not. Are there laws governing the timeline of this situation? Put another way, can the state determine if it's been too long?

No, there are no timelines governing the situation, and no requirement that they tell her the outcome either.

There are no laws addressing this situation. If she is covered by a union contract, the contract might address this, but I have worked for a big city in Maryland in the past with nine unions and none of their contracts addressed it, so I wouldn't be optimistic even there.

Neither are there any laws that require the employer to advise the person being accused (nor the accuser) of the outcome of the investigation. Seeing that it has no been over two months, it's very possible that the employer determined the complaint was baseless and no action is going to be taken.

If ind it very interesting to know that her employer does not even need to let her know what the outcome was. Thank you for the reply.
