Can a company force you to use your pto time if the company has a shutdown day due to slow sales. During the winter if a shutdown occurs we have the option of using pto time or not We were told we had to use Pto time so when business picks back up everyone wont be trying to take days off.
Yes, an employer may legally force the use of PTO for company shutdowns. For both exempt and non-exempt employees. In all 50 states.

Agree. I would mention, though, that for exempt employees ONLY, if the shutdown is not for a full workweek AND the employee does not have enough PTO time to cover the shutdown, the employee still must be paid.

I'm wondering, does this still apply in British Columbia? Can they force us to take PTO?
