There is talk around my apartment complex of a wave of break-ins recently. The leasing agents and property manager are being very secretive about the whole thing. Do we have any rights as tenants to ask or be informed about crimes that are happening in our own apartment complex??

You have the right to contact the local police department for recent activity in your area. There is normally a nominal cost for this, but feel free to contact them. Be aware that even if there is criminal activity on the property, this does not give you the right to break your lease.

Thanks for the reply. It seems as though the occurrences are escalating, and I know that about 1-2 months ago the property discontinued its' contract with a security company. Do I have any grounds to request an early termination of my lease with the discontinued security coverage in mind?
Also, if it got to it, would I have grounds to break my lease if MY apartment were burglarized?

Unfortunately no...A landlord can never guarantee against crime and unless he is committing the break-ins then you have no rights to terminate your lease. I suggest getting an alarm system and making sure to always lock your doors !
Was the security part of the lease?
