i am in the final stretch of paying some arrears child support in FL. I have maybe one or two payments left. The question is....will the money stop coming out automatically?? If more is taken than I owe do I get the overpaid amount back??

Speaking as someone who has handled this from the employer's side of things, the employer keeps making the deduction until the court tells the employer to stop. At what point you think you have this paid off, you should give the court a call. Follow up if necessary.

1. After you receive your paycheck where the final payment has been taken out, talk to the person in your payroll office who handles the deductions, etc. Find out how/when they make payment to the state (usually it's within 7 days of your payday, many do it within 24 hours electronically).

2. On that day (or the day after) - when payment is made to the state, contact your Child Support Enforcement Office, and ask to speak to your caseworker. You should have one assigned to your case.

3. Ask the caseworker to verify that payment has been received. (Here in North Carolina, we have a web site where I can verify that for myself online, the day its received by the state - your state may have something similar - check their web site now). Ask the caseworker (politely of course) if she can make sure the letter is sent out to your employer that the payments are complete.

In my experience (assisting hubby with his arrearage payments a few years back), this is done anyway, but there may be a delay and funds are taken out of your check before your employer receives it.

A polite, well-timed telephone call to the right person can expedite this matter.

God bless,
Amy
