My husband recently got sole physical custody of his son and his child support order from when the boy lived with Mom was vacated as of last July 2008. Every payment he made when the boy was living with us that he made to Mom was applied to arrears that accrued before there was a child support order issued. Kind of like starting behind before you have a chance to get started. Anyway with those payments applied and my husband's tax return that had been applied it brings his balance down to zero and closes the case. My question is does anyone know how long it might take for this to get reported to the proper agency so that my husband can get his pass port? What agency is this? We are newly weds and want to plan our honeymoon and would love to leave the country but dont want to rely on this to much before our expected departure date just because it seems like it can be another long a redicilous process.

The US State Department website states that it will take two to three weeks after payments have been made to get your name removed from the no passport list.

I don't know if it would actually be that quick though. These agencies are so slow.
