Hi everyone. I have a question about overtime.
I get paid every two weeks. The pay period is Mondays through Sundays, ends at midnight. On my last paycheck, I worked a total of 62 hours in the pay period, 34 hours the first week and 28 hours the second week. When I got my paycheck, I was paid 45 regular hours and 17 overtime hours. (I thought I should only have had 4 hours of overtime because of two ten hour days.) This is not the first time I have gotten overtime that I didn't understand. When I ask about it my supervisor says, "Oh, don't worry about it" or "You must have just worked extra hours." I am worried about it, I don't want them coming back to me later. Because the hours did add up to 62, I decided to look around and see what I could find on the internet about overtime.
My work schedule is Thursdays 5 to 1am, Fridays 3 to 11pm, Saturdays and Sundays both 7 am to 3pm. I make $8.75 an hour. When I went looking, I found this: http://blog.laborlawcenter.com/2008/06/12/changes-to-nevada-overtime-law/ . The example given is exactly my work schedule, getting off on Fridays at 11pm and having to be back on eight hours later. The company does offer benefits, I had vision but declined them when they got a new plan because they had just cut my hours and I couldn't afford it.
Was this a real change to the laws? If it is, I can figure out exactly where the 17 hours actually came from (I had a weird schedule during that pay period). If it's not real, I'm getting overpaid. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure this out, please? I would really, really appreciate it.
