Hi, I do not know much about split shift pay and I cannot find any definitive answer. I recently have been scheduled split shifts. I work in retail and I will be working two shifts at two different stores. essentially my schedules will be 8-12 (4 hours) at one store and 4-8 (4 hours) at another store with a 3 hour break in between that i'm not getting paid for. is there any compensation that I can get from this. thanks

I'm assuming that the two locations are the same employer.
Split Shift pay is a funny, and hard to calculate, thing.
Basically, you are entitled to a split shift differential with that long a break between your shifts. The pay that you would get is equal to one hours work at the current minimum wage, minus anything that you made over the minimum wage for that day.
So if you're getting paid 8.25 an hour and you work a total of seven hours with a split in the middle, you'd get paid 6.25 total for that day for your split shift premium, plus your days wages.
8 (minimum wage) - 1.75 (earnings over minimum wage for the day)
So if you're making 10 to 12 an hour, you'd likely end up with nothing as you'd be earning enough over the days minimum wage.
It's a confusing rule.

this is an area that the courts will likely address over time.
