I am a teacher in Kentucky, with a contract for the current academic year. I have been in my position for less than 1 year, so I do not qualify for FMLA.
I am approx. 4 mos. pregnant. I am experiencing a lot of morning sickness, nausea, dizziness, anxiety, and exhaustion. Because of the severity of these symptoms, I am almost out of sick and emergency leave. I have been told that I face disciplinary/corrective action if I miss any more work for whatever reason. I do care about my students dearly, but I feel like I cannot give 100%when I feel this way....which is most of the time. I am really stressing about this.
I am going to ask my doctor about taking a leave of absence (unpaid). I know that if I voluntarily resign, the board can (& probably will) hold me liable for breach of contract. I also believe that my teaching certificate can be suspended for up to 1 year. Does anyone know if I request a leave of absence, and my doctor completes a form to support my request, can I still be liable for breach of contract?
Thanks for your help!
