I currently rent two rooms in my parent's townhouse to two other students here in gainesville, fl. I woke up this morning and one of my roommates was gone.She packed up her stuff and left while i was asleep and left some note stating that she couldnt live here anymore since she doesn't get along with me. However I had not spoken to her in a month due to different schedules and was not aware there is a problem. She left this months utilities and that is it. She signed a lease with my parents through june obligating her to pay .Can we take her to small claims court to collect the rest of the money she would owe which is about 1700 dollars? :confused:

Yes, you can try to get the money due through small claims court.

There is one caveat. You must make an effort to re-rent the unit. You can collect for only the time until you re-rent the unit, or one month if you don't make an effort to re-rent.
