I recently had a bad infection and had to leave work because I was in so much pain. I have a note from my doctor that excuses me and I have a serious medical condition. I was given a serious written warning because I left work before someone could cover for me. what should I do?

Get permission to leave next time.

A doctor's note has no force in law outside of FMLA and the law does not grant you protected permisssion to leave work, with or without permission, even for medical reasons, unless FMLA is involved.

yeah my boss told me to wait until someone showed up. I was in too much pain and had to go to urgent care. Is there any way I can get fmla involved.

How many employees does this employer have?

How long have you worked for this employer?

In the last 12 months, did you work a minimum of 1,250 hours?

How long ago did this happen?

Did your doctor suggest you stay home from work at all? If so, for how long? What kind of treatment did he prescribe?
