I work part time ( when they call me and ask me to work a job) for a security company in MIchigan. The last assignment i was asked to pick up another employee at a predetermined location and drive him to the hotel ( after 45 mintues of waiting i was informed he was given a ride from anothe remployee). and then to the job site for the day. That drive was 3 hours, then anotehr hour to the actual job site. We worked 4 hours, then another 1 hour drive to the hotel. The next morning we took anotehr horu drive back to teh event and worked for 8 hours. Then it was anotehr 3 horu drive back to drop the employee off at the location where his ride was. As a break down of the hours....
1:45 PM - 2:30 waiting for employee
2:30 PM - 5:30 PM driving to hotel to meet up with the rest of the crew
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM driving to actual work site
7:00 PM - 11:00 PM on the job
11:00 PM - 12:00 AM drive back to hotel
9:00 AM -10:00 AM driving back to work site
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM on the job
6:00 PM - 9:00 Pm driving back to drop off other employee

The company is only paying for the 12 hours of "on the job" time can they actually get away without paying any travel time? I've looked at this link but i can not make much sence of it

And now they want me to do the same routine this comming weekend. that much travel time for tha tlittle work time hardly seems worth my time. All commnets are definatly welcome and advice would be greatly appreciated

Maybe, maybe not. I do see that you might have a better than 50/50 chance, since it appears you were directed as part of your job to pick up the other employee.

You can certainly contact the state Dept. of Labor and ask them and file a claim for unpaid wages if they agree with you; theirs is the opinion that matters anyway.
