That is great info. I have a question. I've been at my current job for 11 months. My supervisor is giving me a hard time about going to follow up Dr. appointments from surgery I had in October and also taking time to take my daughter to the orthodontist. I don't take the entire day off, and work over time often. I also have sick and vacation time accrued. Can they harass me like this, and or fire me? I'm in Va.

Since you have not been with your employer for a year yet, FMLA does not apply, and taking your daughter to the orthodontist would not fall under FMLA in any case. So yes, regardless of how much sick time or vacation time you have built up, they can "harass" you about taking the time off.
