I have heard that you can be denied unemployment benefits if you are pregnant. Does anyone know if this is true?
I lost my job back in August and just found out I was pregnant. My benefits will be up in 1 week and i'm waiting to find out about the extension.
A friend told me not to tell them i'm pregnant or i will be denied.. Isn't that discrimination?
The issue with UI is not pregnancy per se but rather being willing and able to work. As long as you are able and willing to work (and everything else is ok), then you are eligible for UI. If you are not able and willing to work for any reason, then you are not eligible for UI.
Regarding telling the state you are pregnant, you should answer any questions truthfully. If that is actually a question, then you should answer it truthfully. I am not sure that I would volunteer any information not actually asked, but that applies to all information and not just pregnancy.

Agree with DAW. If you can't work due to your pregnancy, do not lie & tell the unemployments ins. folks you are willing & able & looking for work. If you are currently able to work, willing to work & looking for work, than that is fine - you are eligible for UI even if you are pregnant.
The above applies just not to pregnancy - you always have to be willing, able & looking for work in order to be eligible for UI benefits.
