I was requested to wear a company shirt that was too small in the bust at a company fuction and declinned to do so because I felt that it was innapropriate. No remedial action was taken at the time however, two weeks later HR contacted me and informed me that a complaint had been filed against me for innapropiate dress stating that the blouses I have worn to comapany fuctions are too "revealing" and that I will need to change the way I dress. The HR manager would not tell me who filed the complaint or give me any specifics of the date of the offense or what I was wearing that was considered offensive. I feel that the complaint was in relaliation for my refusing to wear the innapropiatedly sized company shirt. Do I have a right to know who filed the complaint and what the details were?

"Inappropriate" is the the eye of the beholder.
The company is not required to tell you who said it or when.
Who purchases the company shirts? Can't you just order a larger size?

The shirt was ordered for me without consulting me first for my size. That was a one time company function. The issue now is that somebody has filed a complaint against me for innappropiate dress and HR will not provide me with any specifics. I have never had any HR issues prior and have never had any complaints about the way I dress. I am offended by the allegation and think that it is in relataliation. Do I have any recourse with HR?
If you are looking for a law that will force HR to tell you who made the complaint, there isn't one.
Even if you are 100% correct and the complaint was in "retaliation" for not wearing the incorrectly sized shirt, that is not illegal. Contrary to what far too many people believe, not all retaliation is illegal - in fact, most retaliation is not illegal.

Thanks for the feedback.
My concern is that if I do not document with HR my concerns of relatilation and that I am offended, additional complaints can be unjustly filed against me. With no specific's given as to the date or style of dress I have no way of ensuring that the suposed offended party will not file another complaint.
Frankly I am offended by the bogus complaint and that it now is in my employee file as well as the fact that I have no way of responding to or defending myself.
