We're unfortunately going to have to layoff 6 employees at the end of the week. We'd like to pay them through the end of the month. If we make their effective term date the end of the month, can we pay them weekly through the regular payroll cycle or do we still have to pay all amounts due on the date we tell them? They will not be required to report to work after this week.

Thanks.

If you make the effective date of termination 12/31, with all that entails (insurance, etc.), then you can pay them as normal. I would call it Salary Continuation or something similar, though. It will delay when they can file for UI though.

We did intend to continue their health insurance, etc. until the end of the month. We'll have to explain about UI - folks seem to be confused about when and how to apply.

Thank you for the quick reply.
