I am the director of production for a small company in Cincinnati, Ohio. I recently went to our home office to pick up the paychecks for my staff. Upon arrival I was told that my compensation was decreased by $1000 a month. My paycheck that was issued, was for the new amount. Can an employer decrease pay without notification on wages already earned without prior notification? We are on a bi-monthly pay period.

Ohio law does not address this issue at all & is pretty "light" on most wage & hr. laws. So, technically, yes it would be legal to tell you when you received your paycheck. It's not good management or practice but it isn't illegal.

I find it very disheartening the lack of responsibility portrayed in the Ohio law on employement. I think we all need to write to our elected officals. In this downward economy, employers have the right to do whatever they choose. We are all just fighting to survive. It becomes hard to trust or respect an employer that finds it ethical for practices such as this, and the many other questions posted here. I am a very loyal employee as many others are, and when things like this happen the employer wonders why productivity and company moral goes down. There are wrong ways and right to do anything. With the current Ohio laws there are no consequences for doing what most would consider illegal. Thanks again for your quick reply.
