I see that in Calif. the law states that employees who show up ready to work must be paid for at least half of their shift (minimum 4 hours). I have searched the MI labor law site and can't find anything about reporting to work pay. Can anyone please tell me if this law apply in Michigan? The number of patients on my unit can change quickly. But if I do not receive a call to stay home at least 1 hour before my shift (I need this much travel time) and I report to work, can I be sent home with no pay? I am not being unreasonable. I don't expect to get paid for work I didn't do, but I would really just like to be compensated my gas and toll money. Thank you in advance for any input.

Michigan does not have a reporting pay law.

Thank you for your quick response. I guess I have no recourse now. :(
Here is another question (not one I expect you to answer) I just need to vent! How can it be legal for an employer to make you spend your money reporting to work and not be compensated?

Actually, it is legal because your state has chosen not to enact legislation regarding reporting time pay. You're certainly welcome to lobby your state representatives.
