i am working for a company in ohio i am considered a contractor because i have to carry my own liability ins. i am paying for my own meals, fuel, and expenses. they are paying for my hotel.
are they required to be paying me a per diem for my meals and expenses?

Even if you were an employee, the company would not be required by law to reimburse you for meals, the fact that they are reimbursing you for lodging not withstanding.

As an independent contractor, your contract/ageement is the controlling document here; wage and hour law does not apply.
