View Full Version : Notice period before quitting - Texas

Hi,

I signed an agreement with a multi-national company that has started up an office in Houston, TX, that I would give notice of 6 months before quitting - and they would do the same if they wanted to terminate me.

6 months is just too long and I can't see how this could be productive to either myself or the company I work for.

The agreement also states that all Texas laws would be followed and given recedence.

My question is whether Texas Law stipulates a minimum or maximum amount of time as notice - or whether this is left completely to the employer/employee to decide on.

No state stipulates either a minimum or a maximum notice time. In all 50 states, it is completely a matter between the employer and the employee.

OK.

Is there any way I can change it? What could happen if I give a shorter notice?

That's between you and your employer. The law does not address this.
