I live in a townhome community with approximately 68 units. The majority of the tenants are african american families. Within the last couple of months a new office manager came onboard and has been evicting and threatening eviction to african american families in the community. She says racist remarks consistently to the and about the women on a regular basis. I have received at least two threats of eviction (for a bad seal on my toilet which started leaking through to the kitchen and for my daughter looking through a fence) and two three day notices in the last month. The last 3-day notice I received, the manager gave it to another tenant to give to me!

The manager enters apartments without notice and especially if she knows that you are not home. This is without permission. She threatened another tenant with eviction after her toilet overflowed. After telling the owner what was going on, he is disinterested because he's trying to sell the place. It is obvious that this office manager is targeting african american females and their families - with over 6-10 families having been evicted in the last month and a half, constant threats of eviction. With such a small amount of tenants and now with either half the community evicted or threatened with eviction, harasses, and so on, do we have any recourse in this matter.

Thanks in advance for your prompt replies and suggestions.

There may be something else at work here. The owner may have an offer for the land itself, with the building removed. If so, he has to be rid of all of the tenants before he can make this sale. He can do this by not renewing leases, but may be trying to get the building empty faster by eviction (there might be a time limit on the offer).

If this is the case, all of the leases will eventually end without being renewed, and new tenants will not replace the ones that leave.

The leaking toilet ring is his responsibility, not yours.
