View Full Version : Question for the payroll experts out there Pennsylvania

Actually two questions.

Occasionally (due to an employee failing to punch in or out) hours are missed on an employees check. We usually ask the employee if it would be OK if the missing hours would be added to the next pay period. (They are paid weekly) If it's not ok with the employee we will cut them a check that day. If they agree, is it OK to correct the mistake the following week?

The second question is related to the first. I know in Pennsylvania you must receive your final paycheck no later than the regularly scheduled payday for the pay period in which your last day worked occurred. Again, what if hours were missed because the employee failed to punch in or out. Do we need to correct it immediately or if the employee agrees to wait until the next pay period is it legal?

I couldn't find anything that addresses this situation specifically.

If you don't know hours have been missed, you would have no reason to pursue the matter. However, if the person is supposed to work a regular schedule, for example, and he didn't, and his manager/supervisor did not account for the missed time, that is something I *would* pursue before I actually submitted the payroll. Now, if there is a time clock system of some type and the employee, for example, clocked in but not out, that is also something I would definitely try to get resolved before submitting the payroll.

Having said all that, if the employee agrees to wait until the next pay run, I don't see any problem with that. I have done the same.

Patty Thanks for the quick reply.

No problem. BTW, you don't want to know how long I've been in payroll, but let's just say it's longer than I've had my CPP, which I first got it 1988. :(
