I'm a new employee at a very small company (5 employees). We are required to punch in/out, although we are never docked for late arrivals (anything under 15 minutes). Having only worked six 2-day weeks, and still unfamiliar w/the time-clock, I neglected to "set" it properly one day while clocking in, resulting in my having to manually write my time in at the end of the day. Because docking is not an issue and the employers are quite relaxed about our schedules, I rounded my time at 9:00am, instead of the more precise 9:07am. (Actually, as I was the first emplyee to arrive, no one else would have even known, had I not mentioned it casually.) When I arrived the next day, I was surprised to see that a fellow employee (one who has been disciplined for chronic tardiness and absences) had taken it upon herself to cross out my time and "correct" my card. I reported this to my employer who became livid at the employee. He had had no problem w/my rounding out the time and consequently admonished and disiplined the employee.
Strictly out of curiosity, the event being over and done with now, are there legal ramifications for someone tampering with a fellow employee's timecard/timesheet? (BTW, she is not involved in any way with personnel or payroll responsibilities.) Thank you.
