Hello all, My father recently bought a small town newspaper company out from the old owner. The company was inefficient and unproductive to say the least. Part of the sales agreement was to have the old employees (3 people) terminated due to a conflict of interests. Now an employee from the previous owner is threatening with a lawsuit and is trying to get unemployment compensation from my dad. All of this is very new to me (including this thread) and i would be happy for any input available. In the mean time ill find out more information about the situation.

Thank you very much

UC is obtained by filing a wage claim with the State of Michigan, not the current or former employer. Based on what you have said, it sounds like all workers terminated would be likely to get it, although that would be the state's decision, not the employers.
