I am a salaried manager and have been for many years. One of my questions is: Is having a person on salary a blank check to make them work how many hours you want? Another question is: Is an employer required to give a job description or job requirments to a salaried exempt employee? In other words, I was just recently demoted from a district manager to store manager for not performing to standards, but I was never trained for my position, never given any kind of job description or requirments(besides I had to work at least 50 hrs a week). When I was demoted, my pay was cut by $7500 a yr. Another question: Can I get partial umemployment due to the pay cut? Do salaried imployee's have any rights at all? If so, where can I find them? Any help with these would be greatly appreciated.
Is having a person on salary a blank check to make them work how many hours you want?
All employees, regardless of status, are required to work however many hours as the employer requires (limited exceptions in Maine and California). The only question is whether or not they are due additional compensation or not.
Is an employer required to give a job description or job requirments to a salaried exempt employee?
No. Employers are not required by law to give a job description or job requirements to any employees, regardless of exempt status. It is a good thing to do for many reasons, but it is not required by law.
Can I get partial umemployment due to the pay cut?
Possibly. The best way to find out is to apply. There is no cost to do so and there is no penalty for being wrong.
Do salaried imployee's have any rights at all?
Yes.
If so, where can I find them?
That's too broad a question to answer quickly. There is no list where all your rights can be found in one place.

Can I be fired if I apply for partial unemployment?
If I report descrimination issues against my employer? I was told not to hire any more blacks at one of my stores because it too many blacks were bad for business. Of course this was a private conversation. I hired a black and then was demoted...gee, I'm sure that had nothing to do with it. My boss is hiring nothing but White men and women, middle aged, with no small children. We also have managers that are by themselves, in a store 40hrs a week running a cash register.
If I refuse to use my personal vehichle for company business, without being compensating for it? Gas is expensive
Can I be fired if I apply for partial unemployment?
No, you cannot legally be fired for applying for a benefit that is a right under the law.
If I report descrimination issues against my employer?
Not only can you NOT be fired for reporting illegal discrimination, you can take legal action if you are.
If I refuse to use my personal vehichle for company business, without being compensating for it?
In PA (and in most states) yes, you can be fired for this reason. Sorry.
