What are the rules in Michigan for Employee rest periods and break periods?
I thought it was 2 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch for every 8 hours worked....am I wrong?

Is there a state law or labor law that you can be up to a certain number of minutes late. We used to have a 5 minute graves period window that my company took away...can they do that? At one point I thought the state of michigan gave u 5 minutes leeway..

I could be nuts...

I think that taking away break times and not being able to be late in the event something happens (as long as its not routine) is just unfair business practice.

Any thoughts?

Yes, you are wrong. Neither Federal nor Michigan law requires any breaks at all.

There is no Federal law and no state law in any state that grants you permission to be late or gives you any kind of legal grace period.

They most certainly can.

It does not and never has; nor does (or has) any other state. It is entirely up to the employer whether to allow a grace period for tardiness or not.

It may or may not be unfair; however, unless these breaks and this grace period is granted to you by a legally binding contract or CBA, it is not illegal.
