summernights 07-30-2008, 04:28 PM I work at a Michigan Automotive Paint company my job is Accounts Payable, Can they make me use may car to go to the bank to make deposits. DAW 07-30-2008, 05:01 PM Sure. The employer can make you do anything that is not illegal on it's face. If you are Non-Exempt, then the time spent doing this is legally hours worked. MI is not one of the very few states that mandates expense reimbursement although if you are paid close to minimum wage there is a chance that there an argument could be made that unreimbursed expenses would violate the FLSA "free and clear" rule. summernights 07-30-2008, 05:26 PM If that is the case and I have to go to the bank why is it that I have to use my car what if I just tell that am not going to use my car that I will just walk I'm still doing my job just not useing my car to do it DAW 07-30-2008, 08:12 PM The law is not that specific. The employer can tell you to use your car because there is no law saying that they cannot. The employer can tell you to wear a suit-and-tie to work because there is no law saying that they cannot. The employer can tell you to work on X-mas because there is no law saying that they can not. The employer can tell an employee to do pretty much anything that is not illegal because there is no law saying that they cannot. And they can probably legally fire you for failing to do what you are told. You are maybe looking for some "law" saying that you only need to do the things that you want to do in the manner that you want to do them. There is no such law. cbg 07-31-2008, 08:01 AM In other words, if the employer says to take your car and go to the bank to make a deposit, and you walk to the bank and make a deposit, you can be fired for not doing what you were told to do. |
