Hello,

I just had hip surgery in februray 2008, I'm still recovering and I am having knee surgery in a week. I've spent most of the year either in a wheelchair, on crutches or now with a cane. I have a red temporary handicapped placard that I attach to my rearview morror when parking.

I was driven to an Angels baseball game last week and since there were no close handicapped spots available, we parked on the blue lines next to a handicapped spot. I received a ticket marked #22507.8 and they added C with remarks "100% parking in striped area' placard displayed".

The fine for this ticket? $280 dollars! Do you think I have a chance of fighting this ticket? Getting the fine lowered?

Thanks,
Phil

The blue striped area is for a handicapped van with a lift or a ramp to open into. By parking there, you may have kept someone else from getting into or out of a van.

The proper procedure would have been for your driver to let you out, then move the car.
