My question refers to unreimbursed business-related gas expenses.
Other posts in this forum related to this topic seem to refer to tradespersons, such as carpenters, who would often be required to travel to various sites. However, my situation involves a fixed location, where I am employed as a salaried office manager.
My duties include running errands around town on behalf of the office, such as post office, bank, office supplies store, and supermarkets, in my personal vehicle, without mileage reimbursement or a gas card. (I didn't realize this when I accepted the job.) Occasionally, I even am required to drive my boss to an airport shuttle center for his personal and business travel, again, without mileage compensation.
I work for a non-profit, and am not highly-paid. My normal commuting costs to/from home and work is bad enough. Additional gas expense out of my own pocket to perform work duties seems unreasonable.
Since my employer is not willing to do the right thing by me on this, am I able to claim the mileage on my Federal or Mass. State income tax, even though I am not self-employed?
