Our union contract-nursing- and HR reps has stated the following:

If a staff member works any hours over their daily app’t then they must be paid overtime. This applies to "any time" within the 24 hr. period of when the shift started.

My question then is this?? We work many variable shift starts per week..
If a staff member works an evening shift such as 3-1130pm and then works the next day at any time prior to 3pm (ie-7a-3pm ) does this shift qualify for OT, since it is starting within that 24 hour period of their previous shift?? Or for example, if you started your shift Tuesday at 10am, and your shift the next day, Wednesday, was at 7am- does the first 3 hours of Wednesday's shift qualify for OT since it is within that same 24 hour period of the day before's start time ??

Thanks

That's strictly up to the interpretation of the contract. Contact your union representative. Neither Michigan nor federal law requires daily overtime.
