I worked for a telemarketing company in Michigan i worked there for approx six months the start of this year i had a death in my family (grandmother) that caused me to miss days from work now the way the company works is all of your pto time is given to you at the beginning of the year well my grandmother passed on January 5th so the majority of my pto time was used up off rip even though i asked if i could just go with out pay reason being i have children and things come up the last word was no and the pto was give. Now when your pto time is low or ran out you are considered borderline and well i was things came up doctors appt. etc ... well one day after getting 2 write ups in regards to my attendance i which i was told was only done out of company policy and that i was not at risk of loosing my job. i came from my lunch break early i got a call from my children's sitter that they had an emergency and that the children needed to be picked up i let my supervisor know about the situation i did tell her i was trying to make provisions to have some one pick them up but i asked her if worse case scenario came up and i had to get the kids would it count against me instead of a clear yes or no i got a " girl im a mom too and you got to do what you got to do" so the last resort was me i came back to the office and told my supervisor i had to pick up my kids she then said "okay see ya tomorrow" wen i made it into work the next day i was fired and then told that if i didnt sign the paper of separation which was full of lies that my insurance would be canceled that day and that i would not qualify for unemployment so i signed it and they denied me twice already saying that i abandoned my job because i told my boss i was leaving rather than asking. They also canceled my health insurance and dental a day before i was actually fired. Please help ive been dooped !!!

Wha tis it you want us to tell you? Your attendance was awful and they fired you. If denied unemployment file an appeal

I can sleep with your remarks and I have been a single Dad and still mangaged to be where I was suppose to be with regularity. I understand its tough but what you described appears excessive. File for unemployment and if denied appeal. By the way I have five kids and my attendance record was remarkable and used as example to others

The part below the line is panther's signature. It appears on all his posts and is not directed at you specifically.

It is legal to fire you for poor attendance.

Even if it was beyond my control reason i post this ? is because i was told by some one that works for the state of michigan unemployment agency is that the only way you can have a chance of getting unemployment is if the circumstances are beyond your control and i have appeal twice already now is my time to go in front of a judge i will take this as far as it can go

Yes, it is legal to fire you for poor attendance even if the reasons were beyond your control.

You are free to appeal the unemployment claim as many times as your state allows but there was nothing illegal about your termination.
