Hi there...I work for a transit agency and was given a letter today indicating that I will be getting laid off on August 10, 2008.

Around June 10, 2008 I received a general letter with my paystub directed to the whole transit fleet notifying us of potential layoffs. But the letter was not addressed to me, it was addressed to all of us drivers.

So...my question is...does that general letter count as the beggining of the 60 or 90 day notice my employer is required to give me?

Thanks.

Are you talking about the federal or the California WARN Act?

How many employees are involved in this lay-off?

Yes it counts. http://www.doleta.gov/programs/factsht/warn.htm
