I have a friend that wants to get full-custody of his potential son. Its kind of a long and confusing story, but here we go.
My friend J was dating this girl for awhile maybe a few months, his girlfriend went crazy. Like slitting her wrists trying to kill her self crazy. She was put on multiple meds, but my friend couldn't handle her craziness any longer, so he broke up with her and she disappeared. Then she showed up about a year later with a baby, and told him that the baby was his, and that she needed a place to stay because she had no where to go. He allowed her to stay and gave her a second chance and started dating again. Well, it wasn't long before she slipped back into her old ways and started going crazy again. J suggested that she see a doctor, and when she did the than the doctor suggested that she admit herself to the hospital for psychotic care. Which she did, leaving the baby in J's care. It has now been over a year since she was admitted, and J has decided that he wants full custody of the baby. He is not on the birth certificate and is not sure if he is actually the biological father of the child. I am not sure if he has an appointment or if he has already done the paternity test for the child. So he either has an appointment or he is waiting the results of the test. The mother sometimes says that she will sign over full-custody and other times she says that she wont. It depends on if she is having a good day or a bad day I guess. He wants to know how he can get custody of this child either way. He is worried what will happen to him if he is returned to his mother's care, and has become very attached to the boy also being that he has been a single dad for about a year. (The baby will be two on Thursday)
Please help if you can....My friend has really been stressing about his son's future.
I believe that the mother is about to be released or has been released from care, because he has been really stressing out the last few weeks.
Thanks to anyone who can help

Your friend NEEDS to immediately file in court for paternity and custody. He really should hire an attorney for this though. If he can't afford one, he should try Legal Aid.

He does have a lawyer, the lawyer told him to wait until paternity comes back.
He is just so stressed out over the outcome, and what he needs to do to keep the boy.
