So i just started this new job. And they said they would be paying me cash, which i was okay with. Then when i got my check it was made out to "cash" and they said they deducted 30% for taxes. But this was a handwritten check made out to cash, so why would they take taxes out? I asked him and he siad because they were planning on claiming it in the future. Is this right? it doesnt make sence to me! I didn't want to speak up more because its my first week and i need a job!

So, if you multiply your hours worked by your hourly rate, then deduct 30%, IS that the amount of cash you were given? Having said that, however, Michigan law does require paystubs, or some other method with the information listed here (it could be written on the back of your cash envelope for all the state cares).

If you don't feel comfortable showing him the link I provided, file a complaint with the state Dept. of Labor for failure to provide the required information.
Just a thought, but I would be seriously looking for a new job given the facts as stated. If the employer is that messed up, this will probably be the beginning of your problems.
