Are there any laws in Illinois that would exclude a person from adopting? If a step parent has a not so sunny past? Can the courts hold a criminal record against a prospective step parent adoption if it happened more than 15 years ago and he hasn't been in trouble since?

Define "not so sunny past".

Is is standard practice to post a link to other threads that MAY shed light on a members situation. If the other thread has NOTHING (not the same child/father)to do with this situation you just have to say so...no need to get snitty.

Again...What is your boyfriends/husbands criminal record? It is an important question that will need an answer for ANYONE to respond accurately.

Then allow me to help.

Yes, everything your boyfriend/husband has done criminally will and should be brought up... especially if anything involving violence or violence against children is on his record.

Second, if you didn't want the baby's father to be involved in raising a child, you shouldn't have slept with him. Now you and "the bastard" are, together, raising YOUR "bastard" for the next 18 years.

My last sentence was not to be funny. If you are going to throw that word around, I recommend you NOT use it around your child. Pretty soon, that child will realize that particular label belongs to them as well.

Third, unless you have been married to this very suspect person for at least a year, no judge will consider the adoption anyway. That's right, married.

I don't understand why you got your nose all out of joint. Did you think we wouldn't read your other threads?
