I think i know the answer to this question but wanted to ask anyway. My husband has been at his job for over a year and a half. His medical insurance is really really bad. I currently work part time and have decided to go full time so that we can be covered under my medical insurance. (That was the only way to have a status change) Anyway, my medical coverage will take effect on April 1st. I am worried now though because I think I could be pregnant. Can my new health insurance refuse to cover my maternity because I concieved before coverage started?

No, not if it's group health insurance provided by your employer. HIPAA specifically prohibits maternity coverage from being considered a pre-ex condition regardless of your previous health care coverage.

That is what I thought. I work in a hospital with thousands of employees...So it is group health insurance right?

If it's through your employer it's group insurance, yes.
