Hello all, new member here and I love the site!

So, I live and work in CT. My wife is preganant and due in May. I currently work full time 1st shift. I put into writting at the request of my employer about seeking out 2nd shift work, part time at the same facility after I return from 2 weks of FMLA. If I am denied a part time job there, and I am unable to find suitable part time work second shift, would I be eligible for UI benifits?

Why are you looking to go second shift? Does your current employer offer part-time second shift work?

Generally speaking, if you quit because you the work hours are not to your preference, you would not be eligible for benefits.

Oh, and although this post is in the Colorado forum, but you said Connecticut, just so you know, the answer would generally be the same in any state.

My wife is expecting our 1st child. I am going to be the primary care giver as she is the highest paid in our family with no second shift option. Our shop has a second shift. In our shop manual, it states they do use part time workers, without benifits, of course.

There is nothing in the law that is going to force the employer to give you second-shift, part-time hours. Relative to quitting and UI benefits, my previous response stands.
