Hello all! If anyone can give us some info, it would be great. We need some info on Maternity/Paternity Leave. We are expecting our second child in April (don't think I'll make it that far.) My hubby can't get a straight answer from anyone at his job about maternity leave. He's an HVAC technician so there aren't many women, except the secretaries/office workers. And the last time there was a baby, it was over 15 yrs ago. And she was already on vacation so she didn't have to worry about maternity leave. His boss is a little hard to get to to sit down and talk. They are pretty darn busy right now. Why he didn't ask before is beyond me, but we are dealing with it now.

Is there some kind of law that will allow him to take at least a week off paid? Without tapping into vacation time? He is the only one bring in money, so we can't do the FMLA. And temp disability says nothing about the fathers of the pregnant. I can really use him home for a week or two, to help out with our 4 yr old and the dogs. Not to mention all my daily chores. But we absolutly CANNOT afford hime not to get paid. What if I have another emergency C-section? I won't be able to do much with staples in my gut again and while taking care of the new baby?

Can anyone help me? It would be GREATLY appreciated!!

What state are you in?

Unless that state is CA, there is no law that will force the employer to provide paid leave. He is not disabled, so he cannot apply for disability benefits. (Well, he can apply, but he'll be denied).

Does he have vacation time he can use?

What state are you in? If it isn't CA, you are out of luck. At least as far as pay goes.

How many employees are within a 75 mile radius, how many hours did he work in the past year?

Now is a little late to start thinking about the what ifs and what could be done.
