I work in home health and have recently discovered that I am expecting. I am a full-time (32hrs/wk) per diem employee since May 2007. My employer does not know that I am pregnant, but they do know that I have been trying to get pregnant. Recently, my productivity has been changed from 24 visits per week to 28 visits per week. When this change happened in November, I was told just to document my time with extended travel to 3 counties, paperwork, phone calls, etc. and that would be considered when looking at productivity. My time spent working each week was well over 32 hours. On Thursday, I and another employee were told that we have 2 weeks to rectify the productivity situation based on visits alone. I will still be required to cover any area they chose to send me to, and I have to do 7 visits (in an 8 hour day). I get paid per visit, not salary. When I asked how they suggested we rectify the situation, my supervisor told me that the other full-time field staff in other cities have decided to go PRN and not be full-time. I need my health insurance and short-term disability/hospital indemity plans through AFLAC now that I am expecting. I have 2 questions:
(1)When should I inform my employer that I am expecting? Is it better to tell them right away or wait?
(2)Do they have the right to take away my benenfits based on this new productivity change within the above parameters? If so, how much notice do they have to give me and does it need to be in writing?

1. When you tell them is totally up to you.

2. Yes they do have the right. There is no set notice required and it need not be in writing.
