New to Colorado, question I have is a Technical College subject to the federal reimbursement law of $0.485 cents per mile if the college receives grant money from federal agencies? Or is there a state guideline? Thanks.

The "guideline" is only the amount over which the excess is taxable earnings. That's all. The IRS doesn't require that rate be used; any rate can be (or none at all). Whether a particular grant or contract requires a certain rate can only be answered by the source documents.

So your saying Patty that 'no' compensation is required at all? Even though the feds support the college via grant money. Right now the college is offering $0.28/mile, I just thought that it should be higher if it was supported by the US Government. Kind of like the wage issue.

IRS, federal DOL, and 48 states including CO have no such rule. Could there be some type of college funding specific rule? Sure, I guess, but we are no longer talking about labor law anymore. CA and one of the East Coast states (MA?) are the only states that even require mileage reimbursements under labor law.

MA requires it only in some circumstances; it's not an across the board requirement.
