Alot of the Mississippi Laws are vague so I need some advice. My daughter is 17 yrs old.She went to work at a fast food resteraunt the day she turned 16 yrs old and has been there since that time. Now please excuse me if this gets long but I want to get as many facts in as possible so you have a clear understanding for advice.Last week she broke a tooth on a piece of candy. She was scheduled to work and called in because she was in such pain,I took her to the dentist the next day who gave her an excuse for the day before, the current day and the weekend. She was to return to dentist on Monday which she did to have tooth pulled.Well it ended up being more than that and my daughter ended up with several stitches in her mouth and the side of her face and eye swelled and black and in excrutiating pain. She was not scheduled to work on Monday but she was scheduled Tues. The dentist gave her an excuse for those 2 days. So at this point she had missed 3 scheduled shifts with a doctors excuse to be off work. When she returned to work on Wed the managers had held a meeting to discuss cutting her hours because she had not worked against doctors orders.Prior to this she had been promised a raise and a promotion and both of those were cancelled because of this incident. On top of that the managers belittled her and made negative comments to her to the point that she called home crying uncontrollably. They have continued to belittle her to the point that she no longer feels she can work there and has turned in her 2 weeks notice.Should we be seeking legal counsel on this or just let her work her notice and quit and wash our hands of the situation. It has come to the point emotionally for her that she cant continue to work there. We are usually non confrontational and just unsure whether we should file a complaint with the company or contact a lawyer or just walk away and be done with that company.

The employer is not required to observe the doctor's note. Really. It might help her with unemployment, but such a note will not protect her job.

When she returned to work on Wed the managers had held a meeting to discuss cutting her hours because she had not worked against doctors orders.Prior to this she had been promised a raise and a promotion and both of those were cancelled because of this incident.

I would cut hours or fire an employee that had a tendency to not show up for work. Any plans on promotions would certainly be on hold.

Feel free to contact an attorney, but I doubt your daughter has any legimitate case.

ok let me just state she does NOT have a tendacy to not show up for work she is always there when scheduled and goes in whenever called in on her days off.Now I admite she DID miss 3 shifts with a valid doctors excuse that hardly constitues her having a tendacy to not show up...

So what would be your definition then?

Regardless, the above is correct and, further, I would think your daughter would be well rid of them.

If they are stupid enough to train someone to the point of promotion and then cut her loose over a broken tooth, they don't deserve her.
