I moved into my current Townhouse in May '07. Just a few weeks after we moved in, I received an unexpected job offer that was almost 80 miles away. I ended up taking the job and have been doing a 2 hour commute since the beginning of July. The driving is really starting to wear on me, my wife and 10 month old son. I spoke with my land lord when I received this job and he said "ok" and to come talk to him if I needed to move/break my lease. He is a very kind man.

Last week I called him and told him that we decided we need to move. I said we could give them about 1 1/2 months to find a new tennant, and that I was going to start looking for a new place closer to work. He was very understanding and said that's fine. I asked if I would be able to get my deposit back and he said he would discuss with his wife and let me know. I also told him that I had heard of early outs for job relocation of certain distances but I don't know the distance. I haven't talked to him since then, because I wanted to do some more research.

Am I able to recoup my deposit for job relocation? I know it might be a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank You,
Andrew
