I have a serious problem at my job. I work in a bank and contacted a loan officer here in my office concerning a personal loan for myself. We were in the conference room (with the door shut) discussing my options when my boss walks in and says she is sorry to interrupt. We were having a birthday party for a co-worker and she brought a cake in to get ready for the party. She was the only person that entered the room. When she left, he and I continued to talk and when we adjourned as I was walking around the corner I heard my boss say to the other members on our team "She was real cozy in there" Though I did not hear my name I suspected she was referring to me and the loan officer... but I said nothing to her. Once I returned to my desk one of the girls that was standing there as my boss made the comment walks up to me at my desk and asks if I was having an affair with this person. (the loan officer) which by the way is a married man. I was so angry but I replyed by saying no, it was business. I then go to my bosses boss and explain what happened and asked if I could be put on another team. He said he would see what he could do... Nothing was ever said to me about it and about a week later I approach my bosses boss again and he replies...You have done a wonderful job here I suggust you look at our web site for another position.
Look around and see what is available. I like my job but now feel uncomfortable. This happened in September and we have now changed teams but I am still on the same team. My co-workers treat me entirley different and I did nothing wrong! Do I have a case??? HELP!

Gossip is not illegal as long as you are not being slandered or libeled or discrminated against.
Your best bet is to document any occurences and stay professional.
There is a good chance a company will let a "troublesome" employee go, even when they have done nothing wrong and as long as you have not been illegally discriminated against, there is not much you can do.

Sorry :( Best wishes.

This could be seen as discriminatory behavior. If you are being singled out because of your gender (and being accused of an affair is certainly an issue based on gender), it may be discriminatory. This is particularly troublesome for the employer if you asked for assistance and the manager did not help you or, even worse, retaliated. I would go to the HR Department and ask for their assistance. If you are not comfortable in doing that, you can certainly go to the EEOC and file a complaint. Their website is at: www.eeoc.gov (http://www.eeoc.gov).
