My girlfriend lives in San Diego, CA. The house she is renting was broken into. It was completely trashed, trash cans dumped into the house, all the doors kicked in. 3 doors now have holes through them, the hinges and base boarding around the door frames are completely destroyed and need to be replaced.

Her renters insurance covers all items stolen, but is it her responsibility to fix what was broken during the break in?

The suspect they believe it to be is actually on the lease but was evicted last month, problem is there is no proof it was her. So is it viable for the landloard to say it's on their shoulders to correct the damages because they believe it was an ex-roommate. No one has been arrested for the crime, so there is no convicted person and way to prove that it was the ex-roommate.

Any help would be much appreciated. We have called a few lawyers and are waiting for calls back, just looking for answers quickly due to them trying to move out of the house.

The real criminal should be responsible when he is caught.
