I was hired as a Team Lead for a mortgage company, I received overtime which was pretty substantial at times. About six months into the job they changed our title to Operations Production Manager and switched us to Exempt employees, they did increase our salary by 5k. The position never changed just the title. I had zero control over the hiring or firing of employees. I did read about the "Administrative Exemption" and was confused if the position could possibly fall under that. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

Seriously, call the federal DOL and ask. Our opinions, while based on experience, are general and the DOL's opinion is the only one that counts.
There are many possible Exempt classifications. The only one that requires supervision is the Executive classification. The Administrative classification is one of the more commonly used Exempt classifications. You can find the rules at the following website. You basically need to make a list of all tasks you do in the course of your job and a rough estimate as to the percent of your time spent on each task. Then look at the Administrative classification rules to see if it applies. If you think not, you can file a wage claim with your state's DOL.
