I recently moved out of my apartment in Iowa due to relocation for a new job. The lease that I signed was for 12 months, but at the bottom of the paragraph that I signed on the lease, it said that the "tenant agrees to occupy the said unit for a term no less than 6 months." I lived in the apartment and paid rent on time for 7 months. I gave my landlord the required 30 day notice before I moved out and everything in the apartment was in perfect condition when the landlord inspected it. 2 months have passed since I moved out, and now the apartment has a new renter in it (starting December 1st) and I received a letter from my landlord saying that I owed rent for the last month since no renter was living in it at the time.
My question is whether or not I actually "broke" the agreement of the lease due to it saying the tenant agrees to live here a mimimum of 6 months? Can anyone help me???
