I am a single mother with a one year old. My child's father and I were never married and he denyed that he was the father when I told him. I took the necessary steps to prove he was the father and he is now paying child support. He lives in the state of New Jersey. He has now asked to come and see my child. Can anyone help with what the correct way to handle this. Also, custody...in New Jersey he is classified as the "non-custodial" parent. Is this also true in the state of VA? Does his mother have any rights to demand to see the child? What are my rights as the mother? Do I have full custody? PLEASE HELP!

Has visitation been set by the court? If not if you would like him and his mother to see the child you may at your consent... Advice do not let him have the child alone..... Have them visit at your place...

The best way to handle visitation is to set it up through the court. Where is your child support order from? Did you recently move?
If you get along and want him to visit, that is fine, but you are not obligated to allow visits until there is an order in place.
As far as his mother, the answer is no, she cannot demand to see the child. She can file for grandparents visitation. While courts do recognize that Grandparents play a role in the lives of their grandchildren, it generally applies to existing relationships. If she has not been involved with your child, then she has about a snowball's chance in the devil's back yard of gaining court-appointed visits.
