My co worker, who I share an office with, perfers the lights to be completly off in our office. We even have a window that is 7 feet off the ground that he has closed with cardboard and tape. The only light that we get in the room is that of our computer monitors.

I often get headaches straining to see my monitor or a paper to read. Is there some laws that ensure proper lighting in the workplace? Talking to him has gotten nowhere. He just restates that he likes the light off. My boss has taken no position on the matter.

I live in Louisiana.

No, there are no such laws that would fit the circumstances you describe. This is an internal matter.

Yelp, Pattymd seems to have the best answer. Even OSHA has some info on the subject
