Does a landlord have to let a tenant aware of asbestos before lease signing in the state of Michigan? I have been renting this house for a little over 2yr and one of my friends just recently told me that the siding and the boiler is wrapped in asbestos. I'm not so worried about the outside. But the boiler is in the laundry room in the basement and the asbestos is crumbling off. I have said something to my landlord and they act like it isn't a big problem. But is it? They really don't want to put any $$ in to this house, so I don't know if it is that or if it really isn't a big deal.

- If the asbestos remains undisturbed, it is usually safe. If it is crumbling off, it is a serious health hazard.

- Asbestos removal is extremely expensive.

- Are you sure it is asbestos on the heater? Asbestos doesn't work for keeping heat IN, but for getting rid of it.

Have someone inspect it (someone liscensed), if they say it is, and it is a danger to you, they will let you know who to contact to have them make the landlord remove it.
