I was working a job for 2 yrs, quit due to lack of income.Worked at another job off the books(owner never put me on)worked for her for 4 mo.I got fired from the last job for something insignificant.File UE,go through all the details etc.. with the examiner. He determines that I was fired for no reason.Grants me UE.The way they figure it it lands on the employer that i quit from.I have 1 check left,UE sends me a letter for another interview. They say i didnt have a valid reason to quit, that employer refuses to pay and since i was off the books at the other job (they say i was an independent contractor which I wasnt)they cant go after her because there is no record of my employment. Now the state wants almost 5000.00 back!!!I am sick over this and filed an appeal. Why did they give it to me 6 mo ago??I've paid into UE all my life, wheres that $?This state bites. Now what?Any input??Thanks!

Sadly this is how they deal with such issues. They are slow at acting and thus you find yourself oweing the state. I am unsure as you even have a defense at this point. Take whatever you have with you to appeal and before going talk to an Attorney for any help. If you do indeed oweing seeka payment plan and expec them to take your State Tax refund (if any) next year.
